Abstract

The Arboretum of the Facultad de Agronomía y Zootecnia of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán is located in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán and protects native and exotic plant species that serve as a study for students and graduates belonging to this institution. In order to know the structure and biology of its avifauna, census of points and observations were carried out in different seasons of the year during the period 2008-2015. The first systematic list of the avifauna of the site is presented and migratory, alimentary, reproductive aspects are analyzed. A total of 89 bird species belonging to 27 families was recorded, with a great number of migratory species, as well as rare species in the province. Like other urban parks, considered appropriate environments to support resident and migratory species, this urban botanical garden is considered of great importance as it provides shelter, food and nesting sites for Tucuman´s avifauna.
