Abstract

Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin and Clemants is a medicinal plant, commonly used as antihelmintic and antispasmodic. There are few reports of cytogenetic studies in Dysphania ambrosioides. The existing records are limited to chromosomal number of species within the genus Chenopodium. There are differences among the chromosomal number reported by different authors. The aim of this study was to determine the chromosomal number, the chromosome behavior in meiosis and pollen viability of natural populations of Dysphania ambrosioides in four localities of Tucumán: Lules, Leales, Raco and Horco Molle. A chromosomal number of 2n = 4x = 32 was determined, as well as meiotic regularity and high viability of pollen grain (99%). This information
would be useful for the conservation of local germplasm and in futures programs of domestication and breeding of this species.
