Ebstein-like tricuspid valve dysplasia in a Boxer dog from San Miguel de Tucumán

Tricuspid dysplasia is a rare congenital heart disease, with Ebstein’s anomaly being even less frequently reported. This anomaly is characterized by the apical displacement of the tricuspid valve leaflets in the right ventricle, close to the cardiac apex. This displacement divides the right ventricle into two parts: the ‘atrialized’ portion of the right ventricle, which is functionally integrated with the right atrium, and the functional right ventricle, including its trabecular and outlet portions. Ebstein’s anomaly leads to valve regurgitation and, rarely, valve stenosis. In severe cases, patients may present with congestive heart failure. This report presents a clinical case treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Facultad de Agronomía, Zootecnia y Veterinaria - Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (Argentina). The patient presented with clinical signs of right-sided congestive heart failure. A definitive diagnosis was based on the clinical presentation and complementary diagnostic methods that provided confirmation. Medical treatment focused on relieving the symptoms of heart failure and improving the patient’s quality of life. This work reports a rare form of congenital heart disease in canines, which has a significant impact on their health.genético.
